Welcome!

We have been the lead pastors of Sunbury Assembly since February of this year (2024). Previously, we had each been staff pastors for about ten years across different roles: teens, kids, and young adults (Mike); and as an assimilation, executive, and lead pastor (Ashley). We enjoy studying and teaching the story of scripture, and how Jesus has chosen us (the Church around the world) to continue that story in the world today. Over the last year, we have begun dreaming about what God might want to do to change lives in this region of Ohio. We want to lead a ministry that is healthy, a congregation that reflects the backgrounds of the surrounding counties, and a team that cares for people and operates in the power of Holy Spirit (like Jesus did).

Mike grew up half in Ohio as a pastor's kid, and half in Mexico as a missionary kid. Ashley grew up in Northeast Ohio, going to church but in a home with a lot of complexity.

We met at our previous church in the Cleveland area, and are big Cleveland and Ohio sports fans. We enjoy walking with our son and trying out new foods from around the world. Mike is always up for pickup sports, and Ashley a lavender latte. It would be an honor to have you join us and follow Jesus together.

River Delta

Delta

The kind of church we want to be...

A delta is what happens when a river meets the ocean. The river branches out and fresh water mixes with salt water to create something different, something new. We want to be people where every area and time of our lives is changed because Jesus is there.

Jesus (as our friend, John 15:15) embraces and (as our king, Philippians 2:9-10; John 18:36) rearranges our relationships, finances, careers, friendships, romantic pursuits, callings, politics, worldviews, passions, dreams, enjoyments, hurts, traumas, and brokenness. In every season (highs, lows, and routine middles) Jesus calls us to follow, trust, and worship Him.

Just as fresh water and salt water meet in this ecological phenomenon, we believe our church can be a place where people that often "don't mix" (because of background, race, gender, education, or economic status) can gather and help each other grow as whole-hearted disciples of Jesus (Joel 2:28-29; 1 Corinthians 12:12; Revelation 9:10-11).

Our Values

Black Background

1

We are Open-Handed.

As a church, we are generous, and resist living in a scarcity mentality because our God provides all of our needs (Matthew 6-7; 2 Corinthians 9:8; Philippians 4:19).

We give and serve our church and world, following the example of Jesus who first gave us everything (Acts 4:33-35; 2 Corinthians 9:6-12; Galatians 6:2 Ephesians 4:11-18; Philippians 2:1-11).

2

We are Whole-Hearted.

We embrace the idea that discipleship is about inviting health into every part of our lives. While we give sacrificially, we also invest in and care for our health as people and as a church. Importantly, we put people over ministry because people are the ministry.

We are transparent and allow Jesus to have access to every part of us, hiding nothing from him (Deuteronomy 6:4-5; Psalm 119:10-15; Psalm 139:23-24; Luke 10:26-28; Romans 12:1-12).

3

The Holy Spirit is our source.

We rely on the Holy Spirit to lead and empower us though our increasingly complex world, and clarify our mission (Acts 1:8; Romans 8:2-6:26).

The Holy Spirit points us to Jesus and illuminates Scripture (Luke 3:22; John 14:15-17, 26).

We pray and seek God first, and we live and serve from this place; and not doing this by our own strength, but with the help of the Holy Spirt and the gifts given to us (1 Corinthians 12).
